New Study Finds Marijuana Cannabis Can Effectively Treat Depression

Recent studies have shown that Cannabis can effectively treat mental conditions like anxiety and depression, as well as pain and traumatic stress.

Neuroscientists at University of Buffalo’s Research Institute say that marijuana contains endocannabinoids, which is a chemical compound that treats depression and chronic stress. Researchers have also found that chronic pain can be reduced by the production of endocannabinoids that have been shown to effect to our emotion, cognition and behavior.

Marijuana is linked to the reduction of feelings of anxiety and pain. It can also help to increase ones appetite. Marijuana can change the overall way a person feels. The reduction of endocannabinoids has been shown to increase risk factors for developing depression. Dr. Samir Haj-Dahmane, who lead the research, said in the University press release that

“Using compounds derived from cannabis — marijuana — to restore normal endocannabinoid function could potentially help stabilize moods and ease depression,”
The journal of Neuro psycho pharmacology has shown that cannabinoids gear up changes in the brain, which can prevent psychological and behavioral symptoms of PTSD.Marijuana Cannabis

Some researchers have said that heavy marijuana smokers have a higher risk of developing depression. However, more studies are needed to corroborate these findings. Marijuana cannabis contains endocannabinoid chemicals. These chemicals are involved in mood, appetite, memory and pain sensations. They are also involved with psychoactive effects of brain function like behavior, cognition, and emotions.

Marijuana and Mental Health

There are many studies about the link between marijuana and depression. A debate has been going for many years as to whether it’s helpful or harmful. Individual researchers give different theories about marijuana cannabis and its effect on mental health. More recent studies have indicated, however, that depressed patients will benefit from the use of marijuana.

Research has recently been conducted to identify marijuana’spotential benefits in battling post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), stress, anxiety and chronic pain.

A team of researchers with the National Institute of Health has put together a report outlining the link between marijuana cannabis and anxiety. The study is particularly concerned with the plant’s association with depression.

“Cannabis and its derivatives have profound effects on a wide variety of behavioral and neural functions, ranging from feeding and metabolism to pain and cognition,” the researcher said. “However, epidemiological studies have indicated that the most common self-reported reason for using cannabis is rooted in its ability to reduce feelings of stress, tension, and anxiety.”

Researchers are continuing to find new ways in which marijuana and depression are connected. They emphasize that marijuana is not a cure for depression, however, and further research is needed. For more information check here:-
